If you are a 'supervisor' or anything close to this title
Read this.
If you dare to preach and tell your subordinates what to do (or what not to do), LEAD BY SHOWING A GOOD EXAMPLE. You do not come in late and expect others to come to work on time(and worse, you reprimand them for it). You do not leave work earlier than the stipulated timing but expect others to slog till the very last second(or worse, perform overtime). If you think your subordinates are paid to work till that very last second before they knock off - SO DO YOU.
If you are concerned about your subordinates 'taking advantage' of company time and thus neglecting their work by surfing the Internet or chatting - think of how YOU ARE DOING THE SAME THING by logging in to Facebook or Youtube to play games or listen to your favourite songs.
If you think noone is supposed to go for unscheduled breaks, YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER. You make a big fuss about someone exceeding their break or lunch time by 5 minutes, or when someone else goes for a toilet break outside of the 'scheduled' timing - but how come you can happily go for a 2 to 3-hour lunch, disappear every now and then for a smoke, or eat more than 5 times during the hours you are supposed to be working? If you think your subordinates should be robots - YOU TRY BEING ONE FIRST.
If you expect your subordinates to know every single thing related to their job scope - YOU SHOULD TOO. After all, aren't you supposed to guide them in the right direction? If you claim to be clueless and don't know anything at all - WHY ARE YOU A SUPERVISOR?
Think about it.
How many times have you actually behaved like a prick but pretended to be a rose?
How many times have you used THREATS to instil fear in your subordinates?
How many times have you actually been treated with respect? Zero? Because you do not deserve it?
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, everyone out there... When you think you are better than everyone else, think again. Maybe you were better than yourself yesterday, but every other day you are probably learning something that someone else already knew 10 years before. What goes around comes around. Treat people with RESPECT and you shall earn it too!
