it's a damp, cold night
The time now is 8:44PM and I am at work. My nose is melting again and this time accompanied by a very sore throat. There aren't too many calls, which is why I can blog. Good thing I am OFF tomorrow. I am tired of talking. I need a rest. But I will only be knocking off at 10PM tonight and that sucks. Well, working in a call center generally sucks. In fact, it sucks so much that I've come up with a list:
Why Working In A Call Center Sucks (big time)
Why Working In A Call Center Sucks (big time)
- Impossible shift timings
- Impossible lunch & break timings
- Impossible targets(sometimes)
- Impossible customers who ask the impossible
- Lots of other impossible-ness
- You get screamed at for something which isn't your fault
- People can hang up on you but you cannot hang up on them
- People can interrupt you but you cannot interrupt them
- ^ You get the idea
- People talk in a retarded manner and expect you to understand them
- You talk properly(and in perfect English) but it's fine if they don't understand you because they have the right to make you repeat & repeat & repeat yourself until you go crazy
- You must answer each call in a chirpy-i'm-a-happy-birdie voice even if you are having a blocked or runny nose and an inflamed throat *coughs* - if you don't, people can complain about it
- In fact, people can complain about anything they wish
- People can immediately say to you "Tell me your name" the moment they come on the line, but when you politely ask them theirs, they say you are rude
- People can chew loudly on their food while talking to you, but when you put them on mute for a few milliseconds because you sneezed, yoU are rude
- You are expected to answer every call that comes in without taking a break, even though you have endless follow-ups to do and that's part of the job too
- You are expected to be healthy at all times and not take MC, even though the impossible shift, lunch & break timings are bad for the body and increases your chances of falling sick
- You are expected to somehow not have a life outside of work because it increases your chances of taking all sorts of leave - family leave, childcare leave, etc. (even though it is your entitlement)
- You are not to make even a single, slight mistake
- For the job that you are expected to do, you are very much underpaid
The list is non-exhaustive, of course.
But I shall end this entry here because it IS a damp cold night and I'm having a super damp cold nose.*sniffles*
Half an hour to go before I knock off. Yay.
