in a writing mood
I went to Simple Plan's 'Still Not Getting Any' concert last night with my friend and her 18-year-old sister. I was dead tired because we went right after a long day of work, and also because I didn't have the mood and patience to stand in queue & push & be pushed by teenagers. But what do you know, the crowd was very well-behaved. I was also a bit spaced out because I had Pearl Jam's Black in my head the whole day, and then had to succumb to the punkish-rockish-poppish music of Simple Plan. Not such a bad thing, considering the fact that I can tolerate any type of music, except jazz. I just can't stand jazz, and I don't know why. It's just...eww.
Anyway, the not-so-huge crowd consisted of practically every kind of person you could imagine. From kids with water bottles hanging from their shoulders, to teenage girls in skimpy outfits showing off whatever they don't have, to students in uniforms, to twenty-plus peeps like me who were there just for the sake of going to a concert, to guys who wear clothes that make them look like they're a Black Sabbath following(complete with metal studs, tattoos and ripped jeans), to middle-aged women in flowery tops & LV bags, to balding & white-haired men. It was basically free-standing and I chose a spot behind 3 boys who jumped their way throughout the entire concert. Since we weren't that late, I could actually squeeze my way right up to the front, but didn't, for fear of having to be the last few to exit later on. The concert was held in a Suntec City Convention Hall.
I won't go through the songs sequence because I can't remember the exact sequence, actually. The opening act was local band Pug Jelly. Overall it was a pretty good show for any punk-rock fan. I found myself swaying my hips sideways amongs the throng of hopping-bopping-forever-jumping crowd. My verdict? I wouldn't mind going to another concert of theirs. Their slower songs are better than the fast ones which are too punk. 'Perfect', 'Untitled' and 'Crazy' are very radio-friendly, for those who like to listen to mainstream music.
I don't know why they had to have a punk-rock concert in a building, though. I could just imagine the people who were on the lower levels, either shoppers or businessmen, feeling the beat of the drums & the constant jumping of one or two thousand pairs of feet, maybe. Even I felt the floor shaking and bopping vigorously. If not for the recent earthquake in this region, I wouldn't have worried. But then that worry lasted for only a minute because my body started to get used to the shaking floor.
Now that Simple Plan is already a thing of yesterday, I'm here at home(off day finally!) playing the intro of Dream Theater's Endless Sacrifice on my guitar, reading Jeffrey Archer's Kane & Abel and playing my GameBoy Advance SP Zelda game once in a while. Sometimes, it's good to just be alone and do things alone. A simple, boring, sleepy, gloomy(but humid) day. Yay.
